The theme of To Kill a Mockingbird I think would be good and evil. Because Atticus is good and trying to defend Tom in court but no one else in town thinks it's right because they are all racist. Then its Tom Robinson against Bob Ewell, when Bob acuses Tom of rapping and beating his daughter Mayella when really Tom is the good guy that didn't do anything wrong and Bob is the mean one who is lying so he doesn't get in trouble.
Atticus's background was very bad. They were slave owners, and lived on a very small plantation in the little town call Maycomb. Atticus tries to teaches the kids not to bother Boo Radley, and to never judge someone not unless you walk around in other persons skin. And in this book/movie Atticus tries to rescue Tom Robertson from being executed because he thinks everyone should be treated equal. And in the end Tom kills him self and Mr. Ewell has his life taken all because of bad and good.
